August sees the return of our basketball summer camp for junior players aged 10-17. Taking place in the sports hall at Kings School between 1st-5th August, 10am-4pm every day.
The camp is split into two “mini camps” with the 1st and 2nd August for juniors aged 10-13 and then on 3rd and 4th August for juniors aged 14-17. Friday 5th August is competition day where all the skills and knowledge learnt over the camp will be put to good use as the camp participants compete in mini competitions and games to win trophies and more. We will also be giving out to each age group the award for Camp Most Valuable Player and Camp Most Improved Player.
This year, the camp will be run by club head coach Rob Knapper and former East Cambs junior team captain Matt Juden. Matt was one of the founding junior members of the club and is a qualified basketball coach, he also works for Basketball England and is the head coach of the Sheffield Hallam University mens 2nd team.
Rob Knapper, East Cambs head coach said “I am glad that we have been able to organise the camp again. It is a chance for junior players to come and enjoy 3 days of basketball and have fun whilst learning to play this wonderful game. I am delighted that Matt has agreed to help run the camp with myself. Matt was the very first club junior captain and an outstanding player, but now is also an excellent coach. I am hoping that he will be able to get the best out of our campers. There will be trophies and other prizes to be won including the Camp MVP and Most Improved Players who will be added to the club hall of fame”.
Anyone wishing their child to attend should email Coach Rob at the club using contact@eastcambbasketball.co.uk and put “Summer Camp” in the subject field.
An application will then be sent out which needs to be filled out and returned as soon as possible. Places for each mini camp will be strictly limited to 20 people (boy or girl) so 40 in total. Upon receipt of the form it will be checked and sent out with a request for payment details, which must be paid in 5 days (this is non returnable unless the camp is cancelled), the cost of the camp is £50. If we are over subscribed with applicants we will have a reserve list. Should payment not be made, then those on the list will be offered a place. Each participant when attending should bring a packed lunch and water bottle (water fountain on site to refill) wear suitable sports kit and footwear.
