End of season award winners

It was a welcome return on Wednesday 13th July 2022 for our  annual trophy presentation, to celebrate our first season of competition after the enforced Covid lockdown.

Held in The Pavilion’s in Sutton, the presentation evening was attended by players, family and friends from all of our teams from our junior squads all the way through to our senior men’s team.

Winners on the evening were presented with their own individual trophy to keep and their name forever engraved on the annual shield which they keep for a year and a place in the club hall of fame.

Club chair and head coach Rob Knapper said “It was nice to get the evening back after the lockdown.  All of our players have worked really hard this season, which was really long and disrupted at times due to COVID, but we got through it.  Our winners have thoroughly deserved their awards.  We hand out three individual trophies every year at every age group for Most Valuable Player, Most Improved Player and Players Player and this year we were pleased to add the under 12 team and our Men’s 2 team to the winners.  I have also decided to award special achievement trophies every year to those players that have made over 100 appearances and scored more than 500 points for the club and this year we were able to award 2 players, Hayden Brown and Alex Needham.  It made up for the fact that we were unable to present our under 18 team trophies this year as we did not have enough juniors to run a squad”.

“Every year the club seems to get stronger with our pool of players and the family atmosphere that I want throughout the club.  This evening gives us a chance to do this and allows the players and their friends and families to mix together and talk basketball.  It gives our junior players a chance to talk to the senior players and vice versa.  One thing is for sure, at the rate our teams are growing we are going to need to find a bigger venue next year”!
